That is still correct, boost will make up for smaller engines but displacement rules. Sure, can you make 1000 hp on a 4 cylinder, yes, but its stressed and heavily built, modded out the wazoo, big turbo etc whereas lets say an LS1 can make 1000 with a big turbo and minor bolts on's and idle at 600 rpm all day long.
You mention on using a turbo from a 1,6td in your 1,9liter engine. I suggest you drop the idea. The 1,6td unit has a turbine housing of a 0,36 ratio. This will make your 1,9 liter engine perform really well from approxiamately 1000rpm to about 3000rpm. Might be great for heavily congested city traffic tho'.
What I have researched: Average life appears to be 300-500k miles. And, as mentioned, it's all about maintenance. Catch-up maintenance can be spendy. Look over my project link in my signature. This is a worst case scenario. Even if it is 'certified', I would have the timing belt replaced.
Location. Ohio. TDI. 2000 NB. Oct 7, 2012. #1. Hi, I'm considering a swap from a 2000 Beetle into an 05 Ford F150. I'm not worried about the power aspect, the Ford has the gutless v6 and would be my daily driver for mpg not for real use as a truck. My major concern is bolting the 1.9 up to the m5r2 5 speed.
Atleast in the cummins world that is. With the cummins you can hold 1250 all day long. Anything over that and you are taking a withdraw from the engine and bank account. How big of a withdraw depends on how hot you go and for how long. With my engine on the rabbit I see 1200 to 1500. Depends on how much boost I run on the LP turbo.
